Jurgen Klopp says coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, has suggested that rejoining the club remains a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included continental glory and the Premier League crown for three decades, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would embrace the idea that he may eventually return. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I stated I refuse to lead another team within the country. So that means should it be the Reds...yes. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about what circumstances must arise to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he feels no immediate pull to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players talking freely, I appreciate that. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended of the current boss, crediting him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated a string of losses in all competitions after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion it could be a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward such as Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, along with the consequences on Liverpool. The Portugal international lost his life in a vehicle collision together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad as well. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Coping with it individually is difficult. Impossible.”
